Emergency Shelter

The Emergency Shelter is located in Hidalgo County (confidential location) with a total of 45 beds that can accommodate up to twelve families. A toll-free Crisis Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year to victims of family violence and survivors of sexual assault within Hidalgo and Starr County. The Emergency Shelter provides a safe haven to victims of family violence who are fleeing their homes seeking safety. Shelter advocates provide advocacy and a safe and comfortable environment through crisis intervention services to victims of family violence, their children, and at times other family members. Other essential services such as case management, transportation, individual and group counseling, and referrals to medical needs, and linkage to other community resources are provided as well. In addition, shelter advocates assist families in safety planning.

Children's Program

Children’s Program activities are provided daily; the purpose of the activity is to provide the youth with age appropriate projects that allow for expression of feelings in a supportive environment as an outlet for stress reduction and self-esteem.
